General Information

Situated in the northwest corner of Arnhemland and adjacent to Kakadu National Park and Cobourg Peninsula in Australia's Northern Territory, lies a vast sub-tropical savannah that has been described as a national treasure trove depicting ancient human occupation, and a pristine wilderness area hosting myriad ecosystems and wildlife inhabitants. Intense media interest has resulted in television documentaries and magazine articles featuring the Mount Borradaile region of Arnhemland reaching a worldwide audience.
This is where you escape the pressures of civilisation and become a student of nature. Davidson's Arnhemland Safaris will guide you through a series of educative adventures of your own choice, in an environment where the Aboriginal association with the land is constantly on display. Richly descriptive rock paintings depict events of the distant past.

Part of the Cooper Creek floodplain at Mount Borradaile - Arnhemland

Access to the safari camp is usually by air charter from Darwin or Jabiru, with breath-taking scenic views of river systems, floodplains and the Arnhemland Escarpment. (4WD access is optional during the dry season from May to October). Arriving at the private airstrip you make the short journey to the main base camp in an open 4WD vehicle. Comfortable, airy twin-share tents with 240 volt power and external lighting surround the main complex, a social hub fully screened and incorporating a kitchen, dining area, library and briefing room. Permanent toilet and shower blocks with hot and cold water are situated at the outer fringe of the camp, as is a laundry facility. Delicious home-style meals are served in the dining room and nourishing picnic lunches and refreshments supplied for all-day excursions. Alcoholic beverages and wines are not included in tour prices but a limited range can be purchased on site to accompany your evening meal. Use of the camp telephone is available to guests on a pay via timed STD or International basis.

A happy guest with a Barramundi - Arnhemland

If you can't catch a Barramundi here, it's time to give away the rod and reel and take up lawn bowling. This is just one of the many activities that you can indulge in on one of our 3, 4 or 5 Day Adventures. Take a refreshing swim in one of the crystal clear and crocodile-free rock pools, or just sit in the shade of a rocky overhang and enjoy the idyllic surroundings as you plan your next activity.

Bushwalking is a great way to discover the botanical wonders of the area, some of the plant species here are found nowhere else in the world, along with insect species such as the beautifully coloured Leichhardt's Grasshopper. Don't be surprised if a dingo, rock wallaby or goanna crosses your path, and the birdlife is incredible, home to more than 200 species.

Max Davidson - Davidsons Arnhemland Safaris

Max is proud to be involved (in association with Savannah Guides) in the training of local indigenous people as accredited tour guides, a process that he believes will ultimately lead to full Aboriginal ownership and management of tourism facilities and activities at Mount Borradaile. In the place where a culture has achieved the longest existing continual human occupancy, Davidson's Arnhemland Safaris offers a truly unique experience.
